Since Google announced it’s patented ranking system for webpages, Pagerank, there have been a lot of discussions regarding pagerank and how to get more of it for your website. So much so, that webmasters have been completely focusing on this holy grail of web development and placing less important on other factors. Google has now started telling webmasters that there are a lot of other factors which affect SERP (Search engine results page) placement than pagerank. Matt Cutts, Google’s voice for search quality, has made consistent efforts to educate webmasters about this for a long time now. At WebmasterBlog.in, we take this advise seriously and have developed our site such that it will rank higher in Google ratings once it’s fully developed. Here is proof of that :
As of today, WebmasterBlog.in is a 6 day old website, with 10 posts on it’s blog (including this). We bought a fresh domain name and in doing so, lost any advantages we could, by having got from a domain that search engines and surfers already knew about. We also don’t have any links pointing to our website yet, that Google knows about (*). This means, that all our pages show ‘No pagerank information available‘ in the Google toolbar. So getting 3 hits today from Google for our pages, with zero bounces, means something to us.
Here are some stats from Google Analytics :
The fact that none of the hits bounced, could mean that visitors found the information they were looking for, or got related information they were interested in. Due to obvious reasons we cannot disclose the keywords we got hits for, but believe us when we say, these were words present on the pages, but none were placed together as a phrase. Since we don’t have any pagerank to speak of, let alone boast about, this proves that you can still get visitors by focusing on other areas.
And we agree, our stats might not seem like a big deal some more experienced webmasters, but for those who want to know how we did it, we’ll be covering essential topics of white hat Search engine optimization in the coming few months. Please subscribe to our RSS feed. You also might want to show this page to non believers
Comments are welcome.
(*) We do have links pointing to our site, mostly from other websites we own and run, but they are yet to show up in our Google webmasters tools console.

Well said pulkit. SEO has become and important part of the entire web-development activity. Unless your websites / webpages are not visible in the first 5-7 pages of a google search, you haven’t achieved the desired results. Keywords plays an imporant key in the whole development. To that matter, Wordpress had some good plugins like "All in one SEO" where one can update the keywords, meta contents and meta discription on both post level and website level. Moreover, clear subject based URL come really handy for improving pageranks.
However, it’s all about the contents that we use in our websites. Search engines like google, bing, ask, msn, yahoosearch etc. are being accessed by internet savvies all across the world and they can do anything to get the information. however, as per the recent observation and psyco study 90% of such users do not go beyond 5 to 7 pages of the search results. Which means, those webpages featuring beyond page 8 loose the web traffic.
Thanks Sajeesh.
I believe that it’s only internet savvy users, who know a little about how search engines work, care to look beyond the first page. In a recent report I read somewhere, most internet searchers never go to the second results page. In fact, the first result on Google has more than 50% chance of being clicked and the first result on 2nd page has less than 1%, according to the study. I’ll post the link if I come across it again.
